Leave the noise behind and spend seven days reconnecting with nature across some of Egypt’s most peaceful desert landscapes.
Some journeys are about seeing as much as possible.
This one is about slowing down enough to feel where you are.
Our 7-day White Desert, Bahariya and Siwa Oasis retreat from Cairo combines adventure, nature, ancient history and moments of intentional stillness across three extraordinary destinations in Egypt’s Western Desert.
Begin in Bahariya Oasis, where palm groves, natural springs, open desert and quiet village life create the perfect setting to step away from the pace of the city.
Take time for yoga as the sun disappears behind the desert horizon. Swim in a natural spring. Walk through farms and palm gardens. Enjoy unhurried mornings and evenings surrounded by nature.
Then the journey becomes an adventure.
Travel by 4×4 through the dramatic Black Desert, walk through remote landscapes, visit El Heiz and a natural spring, discover sparkling Crystal Mountain, and cross the magnificent Aqabat Valley before entering the surreal landscapes of Egypt’s White Desert.
Explore both the Old and New White Desert and their wind-sculpted limestone and chalk formations.
As sunset approaches, settle into your desert camp.
Meditate as the light changes across the landscape, enjoy dinner beneath the open sky and spend an unforgettable night surrounded by silence and stars.
The following day returns you to Bahariya for another slower exploration of the oasis — palm groves, salt lakes, dunes, natural springs and sunset yoga from Gabal al-Ingleez, the English Mountain.
Then travel farther west toward Siwa Oasis.
Siwa feels different from almost anywhere else in Egypt.
Explore the Mountain of the Dead, follow the story of Alexander the Great at the Temple of the Oracle of Amun, swim at Cleopatra’s Bath, wander through the mud-and-salt ruins of Shali Fortress, float in Siwa’s striking salt lakes and end the day with meditation beside Fatnas Island as the sun sinks over the oasis.
This journey has adventure.
But it also leaves room for silence.
It has archaeological sites.
But also mornings when there is nowhere you need to rush.
It has desert roads, hiking and 4×4 exploration.
But also springs, yoga, meditation, palm groves and sunsets.
For travelers who want to experience Egypt more deeply rather than simply move through it, this is a completely different kind of journey.
Your retreat begins in the morning as you leave the energy of Cairo behind and travel southwest toward Bahariya Oasis. The transition is part of the experience. Busy streets gradually disappear. Buildings become fewer. The horizon becomes wider. And Egypt’s Western Desert begins to take over. Arrival in Bahariya Oasis Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and take some time to settle into your surroundings. Bahariya offers an immediate contrast with Cairo. Palm groves, agricultural gardens, natural springs and desert mountains surround the small oasis communities. Enjoy lunch before beginning the first gentle activity of your retreat. Om El-Lefaa Desert Area In the afternoon, travel toward the quiet Om El-Lefaa area. Rather than beginning the week with a packed sightseeing schedule, today is intentionally slow. Find a peaceful location surrounded by desert scenery and allow yourself time simply to arrive. Sunset Yoga As the temperature begins to cool and the light softens, enjoy a yoga session surrounded by the open landscape. No traffic. No crowded studio. No rush to the next attraction. Just movement, breathing, desert air and the changing evening light. Stay until sunset and watch the Western Desert shift through shades of gold, orange and red. Return to Bahariya After sunset, return to the oasis. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at your hotel. Your first day is intentionally gentle — a transition from city life into the slower rhythm of the desert. Meals: Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Hotel in Bahariya Oasis
Wake up in Bahariya and enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Today there is no long driving schedule. It is a day created around rest, nature and flexibility. A Slow Morning in the Oasis Spend the morning at an easy pace. Depending on the season, local conditions and the final arrangements, visit one of Bahariya’s natural spring areas. Take time to swim, relax and enjoy the surroundings. Natural springs have shaped life in Egypt’s Western Desert for generations, providing water for villages, agriculture and palm groves. Time to Unwind This part of the itinerary is deliberately flexible. Rather than checking attractions off a list, take time to:
The purpose is simple: slow down. Walk Through Farms & Palm Groves Later, take an optional gentle walk through agricultural areas around the oasis. Pass between date palms, gardens, village paths and cultivated fields. It is a chance to experience Bahariya beyond the safari vehicles and tourist attractions. Observe everyday oasis life and enjoy the contrast between intense desert landscapes and surprisingly green agricultural areas. Lunch & Relaxed Afternoon Enjoy lunch during your day and continue at a comfortable pace. The exact activities can remain flexible depending on the group, weather and local conditions. Evening in Bahariya Return to your hotel, enjoy dinner and rest. Tomorrow the character of the journey changes completely as you head into the White Desert. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Hotel in Bahariya Oasis
After breakfast, prepare for one of the most adventurous days of the retreat. Meet your desert team, board the 4x4 and leave Bahariya behind for a journey into the Western Desert. Black Desert Begin with the Black Desert, where dark stones cover the surrounding hills and create a dramatic volcanic-looking landscape. The environment feels completely different from the green oasis you left behind that morning. Stop at selected viewpoints and begin a gentle walk through the desert. Marsous Mountain Walk Continue through the landscape toward Marsous Mountain, enjoying the opportunity to stretch your legs and experience the desert away from the vehicle. Walking changes your relationship with the landscape. The desert suddenly feels larger, quieter and more detailed. El Heiz Village & Spring Continue toward El Heiz Village and its oasis environment. Stop near a natural spring where, depending on current conditions, there may be an opportunity to swim and refresh. Enjoy lunch before continuing farther into the Western Desert. Crystal Mountain Travel onward to Crystal Mountain, one of the remarkable geological landmarks on the classic White Desert route. Its sparkling mineral formations catch the sunlight and provide a striking photography stop. Take time to explore before continuing deeper into the desert. Aqabat Valley Next comes one of the most spectacular landscapes of the journey: Aqabat Valley Soft golden sand stretches between enormous pale cliffs and unusual formations. Stop and take in the scale of the landscape before continuing toward the White Desert. Old White Desert Enter the Old White Desert and begin discovering formations created naturally by thousands of years of wind erosion. Shapes commonly compared to mushrooms and tents rise from the desert floor. There is no single correct interpretation. Part of the fun is seeing what shapes your own imagination finds. New White Desert Continue into the New White Desert, where extraordinary white formations become increasingly concentrated. The landscape feels almost unreal. Pale formations rise from golden sand beneath an enormous blue sky, creating one of Egypt’s most recognizable natural environments. Sunset Meditation As daylight begins to fade, find a quiet location near your campsite. Sit. Breathe. Listen. After days of travel and exploration, this is a moment to experience the desert without needing to do anything at all. Watch the final sunlight move across the white formations as you enjoy a peaceful meditation session. White Desert Camp After sunset, your team will prepare dinner. Relax around camp with tea and conversation before looking up at a sky largely free from city lights. Tonight, you sleep beneath the stars. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: White Desert Camp
Wake up surrounded by White Desert landscapes. Enjoy breakfast at camp and take in the quiet morning atmosphere. Morning White Desert Walk Before leaving, enjoy a gentle walk through selected areas of the New White Desert. The morning light creates completely different colors and shadows from the previous evening. Explore at a relaxed pace before returning to your 4x4. Return to Bahariya Oasis Begin the drive back toward Bahariya. Upon arrival, return to your hotel and enjoy lunch. After some time to rest, head back out for a local exploration of the oasis. Palm Groves Travel through Bahariya’s lush palm groves and agricultural gardens. After spending the previous night surrounded by white rock and sand, the greenery feels especially vivid. El Marun Salt Lake Continue toward the El Marun Salt Lake area. Water, palms, dunes and open desert come together to create another side of Bahariya’s landscape. Enjoy the scenery and photography opportunities. El Marun Dunes Continue through the surrounding sandy landscapes before heading toward one of Bahariya’s recognizable mountains. Gebel Dist – Pyramid Mountain Visit Gebel Dist, sometimes nicknamed Pyramid Mountain because of its distinctive profile. Enjoy views of the surrounding oasis and desert environment. Natural Hot Spring Continue toward a natural hot spring area. Take time to relax before the final experience of the afternoon. English Mountain – Gabal al-Ingleez Travel to Gabal al-Ingleez, commonly called English Mountain. Its elevated position provides beautiful views across Bahariya Oasis and the surrounding desert. Sunset Yoga Find a peaceful location overlooking the landscape. Enjoy another yoga session as the afternoon heat fades. Watch sunset spread across the oasis from above — palm groves below, desert stretching toward the horizon and the evening sky changing color around you. It is one of the most peaceful ways to end your time in Bahariya. Dinner & Hotel Return to your hotel for dinner and spend your final night in Bahariya Oasis. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Hotel in Bahariya Oasis
Enjoy an early breakfast and prepare for the long overland journey toward Siwa Oasis. Today is primarily a travel day connecting two very different Western Desert destinations. Journey to Siwa Travel through Egypt’s western landscapes toward one of the country’s most remote and culturally distinctive oases. Lunch will be arranged during the journey. As you approach Siwa, the scenery begins to change. Salt lakes, palm groves and desert escarpments announce your arrival in a completely different environment. Arrival in Siwa Oasis Check in at your hotel and take time to rest after the drive. If arrival time and daylight allow, head to a peaceful viewpoint for your first Siwan sunset. Otherwise, enjoy a relaxed evening in the oasis. Dinner & Overnight Enjoy dinner and spend the night at your Siwa hotel. Tomorrow is dedicated to discovering the history, water, culture and landscapes that make Siwa so special. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Hotel in Siwa Oasis
Wake up in Siwa and enjoy breakfast. Today combines archaeology, swimming, local culture and one final sunset meditation. Gebel al-Mawta – Mountain of the Dead Begin at Gebel al-Mawta, the Mountain of the Dead. The hill contains ancient tombs dating to different periods of Egyptian history, including tombs from the Late Period and Greco-Roman era. Climb the hill and take in panoramic views across Siwa Oasis. From above, palm trees, lakes, villages and desert appear together in one extraordinary landscape. Temple of the Oracle of Amun Continue to one of Siwa’s most historically important sites: The Temple of the Oracle of Amun The temple is famously associated with Alexander the Great, who travelled to Siwa after conquering Egypt to consult the Oracle of Amun. Walk through the remains and imagine the extraordinary journey required to reach this remote oasis more than two thousand years ago. Cleopatra’s Bath Next, travel to Cleopatra’s Bath, one of Siwa’s most famous natural springs. Despite the romantic name, the connection with Cleopatra comes from local tradition rather than confirmed historical evidence. Take time to swim and refresh in the spring. After several days in the desert, the experience feels especially welcome. Lunch Return for lunch and take a short break before beginning the afternoon program. Shali Fortress Walk through Shali Fortress, the historic fortified settlement at the heart of Siwa. Its traditional structures were built using karshif, a local mixture of salt and mud. Explore the maze of old pathways and enjoy views across the modern oasis from higher sections of the fortress. Shali provides one of the clearest glimpses into Siwa’s traditional architecture and history. Siwa Salt Lakes Continue toward Siwa’s extraordinary salt lakes. The brilliant blue water against white salt edges and desert surroundings creates some of the oasis’s most surreal scenery. Where local conditions and current access permit, enjoy the famous floating experience created by the highly saline water. Take your time. This is not meant to be rushed. Fatnas Island As afternoon becomes evening, continue toward Fatnas Island, one of Siwa’s beloved sunset areas. Palm trees frame views across the lake as the colors of the sky begin to change. Sunset Meditation Find a peaceful position overlooking the water. Sit quietly. Reflect on the journey from Cairo to Bahariya, through the Black and White Deserts and eventually all the way to Siwa. Enjoy a final guided or quiet meditation as the sun disappears across the oasis. Siwa Market & Handicrafts After sunset, return toward Siwa town and take a walk through the local market. Browse traditional handicrafts and products connected to Siwa’s oasis agriculture and cultural heritage. Look for local:
It is an opportunity not only to shop but also to experience another side of contemporary Siwan life. Dinner & Overnight Enjoy dinner before returning to your hotel for your final night in the Western Desert. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Hotel in Siwa Oasis
Wake early for breakfast. After six days moving through oases, desert landscapes, springs, ancient sites and quiet sunsets, it is time to begin the journey back to Cairo. Return Journey Settle into your private transportation for the long drive east. Use the journey to rest, look through photographs or simply watch the desert pass outside the window. Upon arrival in Cairo, you will be dropped off at your agreed location. The trip may be finished. But after a week living at the pace of the desert, Cairo may feel very different from the city you left seven days earlier. Meals: Breakfast
This is not designed as a conventional sightseeing package. A typical tour tries to fit as many attractions as possible into every day. This itinerary deliberately leaves space. Space for:
At the same time, you still experience some of the Western Desert’s most extraordinary destinations. That balance is what makes the journey different. Three Experiences in One Journey Bahariya Oasis – Slow Down Bahariya provides the gentle beginning. Natural springs, palm groves, village life, yoga and quiet desert sunsets help shift the pace away from Cairo. White Desert – Disconnect Then you move into the wilderness. No hotel. No city lights. Just 4x4 tracks, Black Desert hills, Crystal Mountain, Aqabat Valley, surreal white formations and one night beneath the stars. Siwa Oasis – Reconnect Finally, Siwa brings together water, history, culture and peaceful landscapes. Ancient temples. Salt lakes. Springs. Palm groves. Handicrafts. And sunset beside Fatnas. Each destination has a different character, but together they create a natural progression through the week. A Wellness-Inspired Journey, Not a Medical Retreat The yoga, meditation, swimming, nature walks and quiet time included in this itinerary are designed for relaxation, mindfulness and enjoyment. They are not medical treatment and the tour does not promise to diagnose, treat or cure any health condition. Travelers with health concerns, mobility limitations or medical conditions should consult an appropriate healthcare professional before participating in activities such as hiking, yoga, hot-spring bathing or extended desert travel.

Night 1 Bahariya Oasis Hotel Night 2 Bahariya Oasis Hotel Night 3 White Desert Camp Night 4 Bahariya Oasis Hotel Night 5 Siwa Oasis Hotel Night 6 Siwa Oasis Hotel This combination gives you the adventure of authentic desert camping while still providing comfortable accommodation during most of the retreat.
This itinerary is especially suitable for:
This journey covers a large part of Egypt’s Western Desert. Expect several long road transfers, particularly: Cairo → Bahariya Bahariya → Siwa Siwa → Cairo The itinerary balances these longer transfers with slower days and relaxing activities. Travelers who strongly dislike road journeys may prefer separate shorter trips to Bahariya and Siwa. For travelers who enjoy overland journeys, the changing landscapes are an important part of the experience.
The cooler months generally provide the most comfortable conditions for Western Desert travel, particularly when camping, hiking and spending long periods outdoors. Desert temperatures can vary significantly between daytime and nighttime. Layers are strongly recommended.
We recommend packing:
Pack light whenever possible.
The White Desert is a protected natural area. Visitors should help preserve the landscapes that make the region special. Please:
The goal is simple: Leave the desert as beautiful as you found it.
Siwa is not simply a beautiful landscape. It is home to a distinctive local community with its own traditions and Amazigh cultural heritage. Visitors should:
Authentic travel works best when visitors and local communities respect each other.
Western Desert itineraries require flexibility. The order of activities or exact locations may occasionally change because of:
Yoga and meditation locations can also change so your guide can choose peaceful, safe and appropriate settings. The spirit of the retreat remains the same even when individual timings need adjustment.
